The 19th African Weightlifting Championships for juniors and cadets (boys and girls) are scheduled to take place from November 18 to 25 in Tunis. The event will feature the participation of 90 young athletes from nine countries, including Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Cameroon, Kenya, Madagascar, South Africa, and Uganda. However, Nigeria, a nation with a notable presence in weightlifting, will be absent from the competition.
The championships provide an opportunity for teams to prepare for upcoming significant competitions such as the Junior Worlds and the Youth Olympic Games in Nanking, China, in 2014. The event will also host the president of the International Weightlifting Federation, Tamlas Ajan, and the president of the African Confederation, Khaled Mouhellel.
Additionally, the African Weightlifting Confederation will hold its congress on November 19 in Gammarth, and a refresher session for coaches is scheduled for November 22, featuring international expert Kyle Pierce in collaboration with the International Federation and the African Confederation. The Algerian weightlifting team will be absent from the championships due to insufficient preparation.
