The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has named veteran coach Wedson Nyirenda to lead the country’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualification campaign.
Nyirenda, also known as “Wada,” will be assisted by Beston Chambeshi and Moses Sichone.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga confirmed the appointments, emphasizing the association’s focus on developing local coaching talent.
“The Football Association of Zambia has finalized appointments for the CHAN bench with Wedson Nyirenda leading the bench. Wada will be assisted by Beston Chambeshi and Moses Sichone on this assignment,” he said.
Nyirenda is currently undergoing CAF Pro License training under FAZ, highlighting the organization’s commitment to empowering local coaches.
Chipolopolo head coach Avram Grant will serve a supervisory role, ensuring coherence across all national teams. Kamanga explained Sichone’s role in linking the CHAN coaching staff with the senior national team.
“Coach Grant will provide support to the CHAN assignment as he does for all other national teams. It is our desire to qualify for the CHAN, which will be held in January next year in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya,” he noted.
The 2024 CHAN provides an opportunity for Zambia to showcase local talent, as the tournament exclusively features players competing in their domestic leagues. With Nyirenda at the helm and a strong support team in place, Zambia will aim to secure their spot in the tournament and achieve success on the continental stage.
