‘We won’t easily lose’ – Kelechi Iheanacho makes vow to Bursaspor fans after impressive start to season
Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has promised Bursaspor supporters that their team will be a difficult side to beat at home after making an impressive start to his career in Türkiye.
The 29-year-old has quickly become a key figure for the Turkish second-tier club, contributing two goals and an assist in his opening two league appearances of the 2026/27 Turkish 1. Lig campaign.
Iheanacho has also been impressed by the atmosphere generated by Bursaspor’s supporters and believes their passionate backing can give the team a significant advantage, particularly in home matches.
“It’s fantastic to play in front of one of the biggest fan groups in Türkiye. As long as we have their support behind us, we won’t easily lose matches in Bursa,” Iheanacho said, as quoted by Fotomac.
Fast start fuels promotion ambitions
The Nigerian forward arrived at Bursaspor as a free agent after ending his spell with Scottish champions Celtic, where he celebrated a domestic double during the 2025/26 season.
His immediate contribution has provided an early boost to Bursaspor’s ambitions of securing promotion to the Turkish top flight.
Iheanacho’s experience at the highest level is expected to be crucial as the club seeks to mount a serious challenge for promotion, while his goalscoring form has already made him one of the early players to watch in the campaign.
Having previously played for Leicester City and Manchester City, the striker brings considerable European experience to a Bursaspor side determined to return to the top division.
Super Eagles recall in sight
Beyond Bursaspor’s promotion campaign, Iheanacho will also have his sights set on returning to the Nigeria national team.
The forward will be hoping to sustain his early-season form and force his way back into the Super Eagles setup ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which are scheduled to begin in September.
For now, however, Iheanacho’s focus remains on maintaining his strong start and helping Bursaspor turn the excitement surrounding his arrival into a sustained promotion challenge.
