Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie has opened up about his strong relationship with teammate Djed Spence, highlighting their mutual support as they continue to grow at the club.
Udogie has Nigerian descent while the mother of Spence is from Kenya.
The two young full-backs have not had many opportunities to play together due to injuries and Spence’s gradual introduction to the team under manager Ange Postecoglou.
However, despite their limited time on the pitch together, Udogie has expressed admiration for Spence’s qualities and their strong friendship.
Speaking to Tottenham’s Official Matchday Programme, Udogie described Spence as an “incredible player” and emphasised how they constantly help each other improve.
“I think Djed is an incredible player. We are really close friends, we speak a lot and we try to help each other in the games. Everyone in the group is here to help and I hope he can help us as much.
“Since he’s come in he’s having a top season. He’s helping the team a lot. We speak every day and try to help by teaching each other new stuff so he helps me, I help him and it’s a great relationship.”
Spence has been enjoying a breakthrough season with Spurs, making 19 appearances in all competitions and earning a Premier League Player of the Month nomination in February.
His steady rise in form has been key for Tottenham as they push for European qualification in the final stretch of the season.
