We need a player like Mohamed Salah – Trabzonspor president
Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has described Mohamed Salah as the type of global figure the Turkish club need, as the Egyptian forward edges closer to completing a sensational move to Turkey.
Salah is already on his way to Turkey to finalise the transfer, with Trabzonspor pushing to secure the services of the former Liverpool star after other interested clubs reportedly stepped away from negotiations.
Doğan, speaking to Turkish newspaper Fanatik, admitted that landing a player of Salah’s profile would represent a major statement for the club.
“We can’t talk about Mohamed Salah; he’s a global star. We needed a player like him,” Doğan said.
The Trabzonspor president believes the arrival of the Egyptian icon would underline the club’s growing ambitions both domestically and across Europe.
“It would be a fantastic signing. We hope he will be beneficial to our club. Trabzonspor’s success has been making headlines across Turkey and Europe, and young players have started choosing our club,” he added.
Trabzonspor confident in pulling off Salah deal
Doğan also insisted the club wants to change perceptions about their ability to attract elite players, claiming Trabzonspor are capable of competing for some of football’s biggest names.
“We’re trying to send a message to everyone that we can bring any player to our team,” he said.
The Turkish side moved quickly once competition for Salah’s signature reduced, with Doğan personally involved in discussions with the player and his representatives.
According to the club president, negotiations were handled smoothly and reflected the professionalism of both parties.
“We rushed to finalize the deal as soon as other teams withdrew. I held a meeting with Mohamed Salah and his agent. It was a very professional and respectful meeting; both sides understood each other, and there were no difficulties,” Doğan explained.
He revealed that the discussions lasted several days before the two sides reached clarity over the proposed move.
“Our meeting lasted about ten days, and everything became clear yesterday,” he added.
A blockbuster move for Turkish football
A move to Trabzonspor would mark a dramatic new chapter in Salah’s career after his hugely successful spell at Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most prolific attackers.
The Egyptian forward became a club legend at Anfield, winning major trophies and breaking numerous scoring records during his time in England.
Now, with Trabzonspor preparing to welcome one of the biggest names in world football, Doğan believes Salah’s arrival would not only strengthen the squad but also elevate the club’s profile on the global stage.
