‘We lost our guard’ – Zimbabwe’s Marshall Munetsi urges Wolves to stay focused after Brighton draw

Wolves midfielder Marshall Munetsi says the team must maintain concentration and build on their draw against Brighton after another frustrating Premier League outing.

The Zimbabwean scored his first goal for the club in Sunday’s 1-1 stalemate at Molineux, but his effort was cancelled out by Jan Paul van Hecke as Wolves’ search for a first league win of the season continued.

Reflecting on the match, Munetsi admitted Wolves lost focus at a decisive moment, allowing Brighton back into the contest.

“Especially against a team in the Premier League that is also in good form, we just lost our guard,” he said.

“We did well most of the match, but in the second half, they started to dominate. It’s just those crucial moments in the Premier League where we could communicate or defend better, because they played the corner really quickly.”

Munetsi, who has been one of Wolves’ standout performers since arriving in the summer, urged his teammates to cut out lapses in concentration late in matches.

“We need to keep our concentration, especially in the dying moments of the game. Tottenham was similar and this game was similar. We need to work on keeping clean sheets to win games,” he added.

Despite the disappointing result, the midfielder believes Wolves can turn things around if they remain united.

“If you haven’t won a game, it’s always difficult to keep the confidence. But we did quite well and just have to keep pushing,” Munetsi said. “The Premier League is a marathon. We have to learn from this, grow together and make sure we finish games better.”

Wolves remain near the bottom of the table after six matches, but Munetsi’s optimism reflects a belief that the team’s first win is close.
