We have never discussed reappointing Pitso Mosimane – Al Ahly Director of Football Walid Salah Eldin
Al Ahly Director of Football Walid Salah Eldin has clarified that the club never considered reappointing Pitso Mosimane.
Following the dismissal of Jose Riveiro, Mosimane’s name emerged as a contender to take over the club.
However, the Egyptian giants has confirmed the appointment of Danish tactician Jess Thorup as the club’ new head coach.
Salah Eldin has put the rumours to rest, stating that the club never considered reappointing the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor.
“When we started negotiating with Jess Thorup, we didn’t find any fault with him; he answered all our questions during the Zoom meeting with confidence and professionalism,” Salah Eldin said per TahiaMasr.
“We asked critics and fans about him and found widespread approval. Thorup has a strong personality and deals tactfully with fans and the media. He only gives opportunities to deserving players, and he is firm and disciplined in his decisions.
“The coach has tactical flexibility. He has won championships and progressed with small teams in Germany until he reached a distinguished position. He is also good at developing young players, which is in line with Al Ahly’s future vision,” he added.
“We did not discuss the return of Rene Weiler, Marcel Koller or Pitso Mosimane, while we proposed names such as Rui Vitoria and Carlos Queiroz due to their experience in Egyptian football.”
Mosimane previously spent nearly two years with the Cairo-based giants, during which he led them to two CAF Champions League titles and several domestic trophies.
