Al Ahly midfielder Hamdy Fathy has indicated that everyone at the club is saddened by their early exit at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Al Ahly on Monday night played their last Group A game at the tournament against Portuguese side FC Porto.
A pulsating contest between the two teams ended 4-4 as both teams crashed out of the tournament, finishing third and fourth in the group, respectively.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Hamdy Fathy said the players were determined to win the game to advance to the Round of 16, but were just unlucky on the matchday.
“We feel sad and we hoped to advance to the round of 16, but we were not lucky,” Fathy said.
Meanwhile, Hamdy Fathy has disclosed that he is leaving Al Ahly after the match against FC Porto.
He is returning to his parent club, Al Wakrah.
“What I know from Al Wakrah Club is that the Porto match will be my last with Al Ahly,” Fathy said after the match.
