We are hoping to benefit from Spain friendly game – Egypt national team manager Ibrahim Hassan
Egypt’s national team is targeting maximum value from its upcoming international friendlies, with team director Ibrahim Hassan stressing the importance of testing the squad against elite opposition ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Pharaohs are set to face Spain today at the RCDE Stadium, home of RCD Espanyol, in what is expected to be a key preparatory fixture.
Speaking on Sport TV on Sunday, Hassan described the encounter as a significant opportunity for the team to measure itself against one of Europe’s finest sides.
“This match is a major occasion for us,” he said. “It offers valuable experience and interaction with a European champion, which is crucial at this stage of our preparations.”
The former Egypt defender added that the technical team is focused on extracting as much benefit as possible from the clash, noting that similar objectives will guide their planned friendly against Brazil in June.
Egypt, seven-time African champions, head into the Spain fixture on the back of a commanding 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia national football team in Jeddah, a result that marked a strong start to their World Cup build-up.
The Spain match will be the second and final game of the current training camp under head coach Hossam Hassan. The North Africans are currently ranked 29th in the world, while their opponents sit at the summit of the latest FIFA rankings.
Looking ahead, Egypt are scheduled to face Brazil national football team on June 6 in the United States, with discussions ongoing to arrange an additional friendly before the squad departs for the tournament.
“We are working to secure another match at the New Capital Stadium before travelling,” Hassan revealed. “Facing strong teams is essential to build confidence and prepare the players for the level of competition they will encounter.”
Egypt have been drawn in Group G for the 2026 World Cup, where they will come up against Iran, New Zealand, and Belgium.
The tournament is scheduled to take place across the United States and Mexico from June 11 to July 19
