Watkins double puts Al Hilal’s scoring hierarchy in sight after Koulibaly’s creative assist
Ollie Watkins scored twice as Al Hilal continued their AFC Champions League Elite campaign against Shabab Al Ahli at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh on Tuesday.
The former Aston Villa striker opened the scoring in the sixth minute after an impressive contribution from Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly. Koulibaly won possession, dribbled past a Shabab Al Ahli player and then supplied Watkins, who finished the move.
Watkins added his second goal in the opening minute of the second half. The England forward showed composure to turn a cross from Turkish defender Yusuf Akcicek into the net.
The double took Watkins’ total for Al Hilal to eight goals since he joined the club during the summer transfer window.
That left him as the club’s second-highest scorer in all competitions this season, behind Portugal midfielder Ruben Neves, who has scored nine times.
Watkins has also contributed five assists, meaning he has been directly involved in 13 goals across his 11 appearances for Al Hilal in all competitions.
