Waniss Taïbi has declared his aspiration to represent Algeria at the senior international level, expressing a heartfelt connection to the country and a deep desire to wear the colours of the national team.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who came through the ranks at SCO Angers and has featured for France at various youth levels, has made no secret of his intentions.

In a candid interview with Onze Mondial, Taïbi spoke openly about his admiration for Algeria and the pride he associates with potentially playing for the Desert Foxes.

“The Algerian national team is a dream,” he said, with humility and conviction.

Although he has built his football foundation in France, Taïbi made it clear that his roots and identity are firmly tied to Algeria.

His declaration comes at a time when the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) continues to track dual-national talents across Europe, many of whom share similar sentiments about representing the North African country.

Taïbi acknowledges the formidable competition for places in Djamel Belmadi’s squad, particularly in the attacking midfield role.

However, he remains undeterred, emphasising his willingness to earn his place through hard work and perseverance.

“I’m aware of the level required, but I’m not afraid of the challenge,” he added. “My faith, my family, and my love for football are what keep me going.”

The young playmaker is currently focused on gaining consistency at club level, with his primary objective being to secure regular playing time and showcase his potential.

With an eye on stability, Taïbi knows that sustained performances at domestic level could be the key to capturing the attention of Algeria’s selectors.

His story mirrors that of several other French-born players who have opted to represent Algeria, inspired by a blend of cultural pride and footballing ambition.

As Algeria prepares for major international tournaments including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the competition for spots will only intensify.

Still, for Taïbi, the journey is as important as the destination. At just 21, he has time on his side—and a clear vision of where he wants to be.

“I’m working every day to be ready,” he said. “Wearing that jersey would mean everything.”
