Congolese striker Walter Bwalya has endured a challenging spell since returning to North African football with Algeria’s Jeunesse Sportive de Kabylie (JS Kabylie) at the start of the season.
After an unsuccessful stint in the Gulf, the 29-year-old sought to revive his career in a league where he once thrived.
Bwalya’s move to Algeria followed a difficult period after leaving Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The forward had initially impressed at Al Gouna, earning a €1 million transfer to the Cairo-based club.
However, he failed to make a significant impact and subsequently struggled to rediscover his form at various clubs.
One of his more productive spells came in Oman with Al Nahda, where he scored eight goals in 17 appearances.
Yet, consistency has eluded him since then, and his time in Algeria has been disrupted by injuries and limited game time.
Injury woes and lack of minutes
Bwalya suffered a thigh injury on December 8, ruling him out of action for nearly three months.
He returned to the squad on February 28 but has yet to feature in a match since regaining fitness.
While he has been included on the substitutes’ bench, he has not been called upon to make an impact on the pitch.
The Congolese international has managed just nine appearances for JS Kabylie this season, scoring twice and providing one assist.
His struggles mirror the difficulties he has faced since leaving Zambia’s Nkana FC, where he first gained prominence.
As the season progresses, Bwalya will be hoping for more opportunities to prove himself and re-establish his reputation as a reliable goal scorer.
However, with competition for places at JS Kabylie and his inconsistent form, the road back to prominence remains uncertain.
