Walid Salah El-din applauds Al Ahly’s determination after vital away win in Burundi
Walid Salah El-Din, football director at Al Ahly, reflected on his team’s hard-fought victory over Aigle Noir in Burundi, calling it a vital step on the road to glory in this year’s CAF Champions League.
“Congratulations to our players and supporters, this win, despite the fatigue from international duty, marks a promising beginning for our new coaching staff and shows the players are serious about making an impact from the very first match,” he said proudly.
Salah emphasized that winning away from home is a huge boost ahead of the return leg in Cairo and credited the team’s discipline, focus, and quick adaptation to new coach Jess Thorup’s approach: “We’re optimistic for the next stage.”
He recognized a packed schedule lies ahead, with league, Champions League, and Super Cup commitments, but urged everyone to “stay focused on the next match, not the long-term future.” Salah expressed total confidence in the squad’s depth and experience and believes Al Ahly’s character will shine through as they aim for silverware both in Egypt and on the continent.
Thorup praised his players for their first-half performance, admitting the second half was more difficult, and thanked Burundi for its warm hospitality. Defender Yassine Meriah called the win a “key confidence boost” as Al Ahly continues its quest for African success
