Morocco head coach Walid Regragui is reportedly prepared to step down from his role, but only if assurances are given over his successor.
The 50-year-old remains in charge of the Atlas Lions despite recent speculation about his future.
Although the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has publicly dismissed reports of an imminent departure, sources close to the situation indicate that Walid Regragui has expressed a desire to leave his post under specific conditions.
According to reports cited by Soccer212, Regragui’s position is clear: he would only agree to depart if guaranteed that a “worthy successor” is appointed to continue the work undertaken with the national side.
For now, he is expected to remain in charge at least through the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place from 11 June to 19 July across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
However, discussions regarding the longer-term direction of the team appear to be ongoing behind the scenes.
Regragui has held significant influence within the Moroccan set-up during his tenure.
Reports suggest he played a role in the appointments of Tarik Sektioui as coach of the A’ team and Mohamed Ouahbi as head of the under-20 side.
Both Sektioui and Ouahbi are now being mentioned as possible successors should a transition occur.
One scenario under discussion would see Sektioui take over as head coach, with Ouahbi operating in a supporting capacity and maintaining a link between youth development and the senior squad.

There have also been rumours of a potential role for Andrés Iniesta within the national structure.
However, suggestions indicate that any involvement from the former Spain international would be closer to a sporting director’s function, focusing on technical development and establishing a unified football philosophy from youth level through to the senior team.
Despite the speculation, Regragui officially remains at the helm.
Any decision over his future appears tied not only to timing, but to assurances about continuity and the long-term project of Moroccan football.
