WAFCON 2026: ‘We are not afraid of anyone’ – Mssoudy backs Morocco against Cameroon

Morocco forward Sanaa Mssoudy says the Atlas Lionesses have no fear ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Cameroon in Rabat.

Mssoudy insists Morocco respect their opponents but remain focused on their own qualities as they prepare for a place in the 2026 WAFCON final.

“We respect every team, but we are not afraid of anyone,” Mssoudy said. “We know Cameroon is a strong side, but we have prepared well. We have studied their strengths and weaknesses, and we will do everything we can to deliver a good performance and achieve a positive result.”

Morocco and Cameroon eye final

Morocco reached the semi-finals after overcoming South Africa 2-1 in the quarter-finals, while Cameroon secured their place in the last four with a narrow 1-0 victory over defending champions Nigeria.

The Atlas Lionesses have already secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil by reaching the semi-finals.

However, Mssoudy says the team are not satisfied with simply securing their place at the global tournament and want to continue their pursuit of continental success.

The semi-final represents another major test for a Moroccan side hoping to make history on home soil.

Home support a key weapon

Mssoudy also believes Morocco’s passionate supporters could play an important role when the two sides meet at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.

The forward expects the stands in Rabat to be packed with Moroccan fans who have backed the team throughout the tournament.

“Moroccan fans are passionate about football and they have supported us throughout this tournament,” she said. “Im sure they will be there again tomorrow in great numbers. They will be our 12th player and give us the extra motivation we need.”

With a place in the WAFCON final at stake, Morocco will look to combine home support with the confidence that has carried them into the final four.

Cameroon, meanwhile, will be seeking to spoil the hosts’ celebrations and secure their own place in the continental showpiece.
