WAFCON 2026: Ghana goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan reveals Black Queens’ eagerness for World Cup ticket

Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan says Ghana’s players are fully prepared for their crucial WAFCON 2026 quarter-final against Malawi as they seek to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Ghana face the Scorchers in Rabat on Sunday, with victory guaranteeing a place in the semi-finals and automatic qualification for the global tournament in Brazil.

The Black Queens have not appeared at the Women’s World Cup since 2007, making the quarter-final one of the most important matches in the team’s recent history.

Ghana reached the knockout stage after finishing second in Group D, collecting four points from their three matches against Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali.

Malawi, meanwhile, topped Group C after recording a major upset against defending champions Nigeria and will enter Sunday’s contest with considerable confidence.

Konlan says the Ghana squad is eager to seize the opportunity and end the country’s long wait for another appearance at the global showpiece.

“Everybody is ready. We can’t wait to start the game against Malawi. We really want to book a ticket to the World Cup.”

The goalkeeper and her teammates will also have to deal with Malawi’s potent attack, led by the Chawinga sisters.

The Black Queens have already beaten Malawi 4-0 in a pre-tournament friendly, although the Scorchers made several changes to their lineup for that encounter.

Ghana will need to reproduce their best form when the two sides meet, with the World Cup ticket providing additional motivation.
