WAFCON 2026: Ghana face Malawi in final warm-up game

The Black Queens will get their final opportunity to fine-tune preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) when they face Malawi in an international friendly on Thursday, July 23, in Casablanca, Morocco.

The encounter has been lined up as Ghana’s last competitive test before the continental tournament begins, giving head coach Kim Lars Björkegren and his technical team a chance to make final assessments ahead of the team’s WAFCON campaign.

Having spent weeks in Morocco undergoing intensive training and playing a number of build-up matches, the Black Queens will be focused on improving their sharpness, cohesion and overall match readiness.

The fixture against Malawi is expected to provide a strong challenge as Ghana seeks to enter the tournament with confidence and the right level of preparation.

With the WAFCON stage set to bring together Africa’s best women’s national teams, the Black Queens will be hoping to use their final warm-up game to address any remaining weaknesses while strengthening their tactical approach.

The Black Queens are in Group D alongside Cape Verde, Cameroon, and Mali. They will kick off their campaign against Cape Verde on July 29.
