Wael El-Quabbani, the former director of football at Zamalek SC, has opened up on the inner struggles that rocked the club ahead of their Egypt Cup final clash with Pyramids FC.
In a revealing TV interview, El-Quabbani stated that ex-coach Ayman Al-Ramadi personally reached out to Ahmed Mostafa Zizo to feature in the match. Zizo agreed, but only if his safety was guaranteed, fearing backlash from fans.
El-Quabbani also shed light on tense coaching dynamics at the time. “My relationship with Al-Ramadi wasn’t good. He wanted to hold meetings with the players on his own, while Ayman Abdel Aziz, the former general coach, refused to attend the final technical lecture due to what he considered a betrayal of the team’s stars.”
He also addressed talk surrounding Shikabala’s retirement: “Although I support the decision, I have not made any recommendations against him regarding the necessity of retirement, as the matter is technical, not administrative.”
El-Quabbani strongly opposed John Edward’s appointment, adding, “I refuse to appoint a football director from outside Zamalek. The club has qualified members within its ranks who are capable of achieving success.”
