Wadi Degla coach Mohamed El Sheikh opened up about the emotional rollercoaster his team experienced during their dramatic 2-1 win over Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League.
He admitted the atmosphere inside the stadium was unlike anything he had faced before.
Mohamed El Sheikh said in a radio interview: “The Zamalek fans were terrifying for me and the players. This was the first match in my life where I played in front of a crowd like Zamalek’s, and I was trying to break the fear I felt with the Wadi Degla players.”
He continued, “I was determined to give Dajla players confidence from the start of the match. I felt bad for myself because I put too much pressure on the team. I was worried about them after Zamalek’s first goal, but they impressed me with their great performance throughout the match.”
The coach also explained, “We have a strong identity at Wadi Degla that we are trying to maintain regardless of the result of the match. Between halves, we showed a video of some of the mistakes the team made during the first half, in addition to some of the team’s positives.”
Al-Sheikh concluded, “Maged Sami, president of Wadi Degla Club, is the main reason for my appointment as technical director, as he has given me confidence since my time in the Professional League, and Mohamed Aboutrika, the former Al-Ahly player, has been my inspiration since I was a child.”
