The national women’s volleyball team of Côte d’Ivoire defeated Togo 3-0 in a match played at the University of Abidjan as part of the qualifiers for the World Cup, Africa zone (Group D). The Ivory Coast team dominated with scores of 25-10, 25-21, and 26-24 in the three sets. This victory positions the Ivorian team well for the remainder of the competition. In the same group, Ghana won against Nigeria (3-1) in the opening match. The Ivory Coast will face Ghana next, and a victory for either team will secure qualification for the next round. The other match between Togo and Nigeria will determine elimination for one of the two teams. The qualifiers in Abidjan involve four sub-regional countries: Togo, Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast, competing in a single group over three days. The top two teams will advance to the final round of qualifiers in Algeria, with only one African female representative heading to the 2014 World Cup in Italy.
