Finke’s coaching career has been notable for his work at SC Freiburg in Germany. He took charge of the club in 1991 and remained there for 16 years. During his tenure, he achieved notable successes, including leading the club to its best Bundesliga ranking in the 1994-1995 season, securing a surprising third place. SC Freiburg briefly competed in the UEFA Cup in 1995-1996 under Finke’s guidance.
After a stint in Japan with Urawa Red, Finke returned to Germany and joined FC Cologne. Throughout his career, he spent a total of sixteen years at the helm of SC Freiburg, with ten years in the first division and six in the second division. His accomplishments include two championships in the second division (1993 and 2003) and a vice-championship in 1998.
