Vladimir Petkovic to reveal final Algeria 2025 AFCON squad on Saturday
Algeria will be among the last teams to unveil its squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with coach Vladimir Petkovic set to announce his list on Saturday 13 December.
The deadline to submit a squad of 25 players plus two reserves to CAF is Thursday 11 December, but the Algerian Football Federation has chosen to delay its public announcement by two days.
Assistant coach Madjid Bougherra confirmed this timing in a press conference in Doha ahead of his Arab Cup quarter-final against the United Arab Emirates, while officials at the FAF headquarters in Dely Brahim have kept full details tightly under wraps.
The late reveal is understood to be a deliberate move to avoid distracting members of the home-based A’ national team, some of whom may be called up for AFCON and are currently focused on the Arab Cup.
Several Arab Cup standouts are being linked with a place in Petkovic’s list, including Adel Boulbina and defender Achref Abada, though it remains unclear whether they already figure in the provisional squad submitted before 21 November.
The staff must also manage the psychological and physical challenge for any players who could learn of AFCON selection while still competing in the Arab Cup, with the difficult experience of 2021 still fresh in Algerian minds
