Vinicius labels Kylian Mbappe ‘legendary’ as Real Madrid future comes under spotlight

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has thrown his support behind teammate Kylian Mbappe, insisting the Frenchman will become one of the club’s defining figures despite growing scrutiny from sections of the fanbase.

Mbappe has enjoyed a remarkable campaign in Spain, scoring 41 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions and emerging as Madrid’s standout performer this season. The French striker also secured the European Golden Boot after another prolific domestic campaign.

Yet his brilliance on the pitch has not shielded him from criticism. Frustration among supporters over his perceived attitude reportedly sparked an online petition calling for him to leave the club, while speculation continues to link him with a possible move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, including interest from Chelsea F.C..

Despite the noise surrounding Mbappe’s future, Vinicius believes the forward’s quality and personality will ultimately define his legacy in Madrid.

“Mbappe is a good person; he always defends me in interviews, including after the match against Benfica regarding the racism incident. He’s a legendary player who will leave his mark on Real Madrid,” Vinicius said in an interview with CazeTV.

Strong friendship beyond the pitch

The Brazilian also highlighted the close relationship the pair share away from football, revealing he had long hoped to see Mbappe join Madrid before the transfer finally materialised.

“Whenever we can, we’re together, even off the field, doing things as friends. I’ve always had a good relationship with him. I used to send him a lot of messages asking him to come and play with us.”

The partnership between the two attackers was expected to propel Madrid to major silverware this season, but results have not fully matched expectations. Vinicius, however, remains optimistic that the squad can soon rediscover its best form.

“We haven’t been able to play the way we want, to win the titles the fans want, but I think we’ll be able to turn that situation around very soon,” Vinicius explained.

Uncertainty remains over Mbappe’s future

Mbappe’s long-term future at Madrid remains unclear despite his extraordinary numbers in front of goal. The French international is reportedly weighing his options ahead of the summer transfer window as debate over his place at the club continues to intensify.

For now, though, Vinicius has made his position clear: he believes Mbappe has all the qualities required to become a lasting icon at Real Madrid CF.
