Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has shed light on Sacha Boey’s loan move to Galatasaray, describing the defender’s situation as unlucky but ultimately shaped by the “reality in our squad.”
Bayern sent the right-back back to his former club on Thursday on loan, with the Turkish champions securing an option to buy.
Kompany explained that Boey had actually been in good shape before a poorly timed illness sidelined him for almost eight weeks, halting his momentum and leaving him without match rhythm during a crucial phase of the season. Even if he had stayed fit, the coach admitted it would have been difficult for the Frenchman to earn regular minutes in the coming weeks, given the competition for places.
The Belgian pointed out that Bayern already have Josip Stanisic and Konrad Laimer who can cover right-back, while on the left they have Alphonso Davies available again, plus further options in Hiroki Ito, Tom Bischof and Raphael Guerreiro.
In that context, Kompany said the decision to let Boey leave became “logical” and potentially beneficial for the player. He wished Boey success in Istanbul, hoping he can enjoy four to six months of consistent football and showcase his qualities again at Galatasaray.
