Vincent Kompany criticises Michael Olise after red card

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has criticised Michael Olise after the winger was sent off in Bayern’s 3-3 Champions League draw with Viking Stavanger.

Olise received a second yellow card in the 74th minute after throwing the ball into the face of Viking midfielder Zlatko Tripić following a provocation.

“Michael is also always provoked, but that is no excuse. It is one hundred per cent his fault, and he knows it,” Kompany said after the match. He described the incident as “overly stupid” and added: “You can see in his eyes that he is sorry for what he did to the team.”

Kompany also told Olise that he had allowed himself to be unsettled by the opponent. “I told Michael: the number 10 was smarter than you today. Hopefully we learn from it and become stronger.”

The coach did not blame Olise alone for the draw, saying Bayern made avoidable concentration errors and were distracted by unnecessary incidents.

Olise is expected to return to the starting line-up against RB Leipzig on Saturday, but he will miss Bayern’s Champions League match against Arsenal on October 21 through suspension.
