Vincent Aboubakar set for potential Bodrum FK move in latest Mohamed Salah twist
Vincent Aboubakar is in advanced talks to return to Turkish football, with Bodrum FK inviting the Cameroon international to complete negotiations over a move to the club.
The 34-year-old striker has been asked to travel to the city within the next two days, according to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, as Bodrum FK seek to finalise the agreement and complete the formal signing process.
Aboubakar would join from his latest club, Azerbaijani side Neftchi PFK, if the negotiations result in a completed transfer. The proposed move would mark another spell in Turkey for a forward who has previously made an impression in the Turkish league with Besiktas and Hatayspor.
His possible return has also revived comparisons with Mohamed Salah, the Egypt captain and former Liverpool forward. Aboubakar has repeatedly attracted attention for comments in which he said Salah “does not impress him at all”.
The Cameroon striker has previously stated publicly that he possesses the same qualities as Salah and could produce a similar level of performance if given the opportunity to play for a major European club such as Liverpool.
Aboubakar has also argued that Salah’s contribution is primarily focused on finishing attacks and scoring goals, rather than providing a more complete creative role in building play.
A move to Bodrum FK would therefore create the possibility of the two players meeting in Turkey. Salah reportedly moved to Trabzonspor this summer, meaning the pair could face each other in the Turkish league if Aboubakar completes his transfer.
The proposed deal remains subject to the final negotiations and the signing of the official contracts. Bodrum FK’s invitation is the latest step in discussions that could bring Aboubakar back to a competition where he has already played for two clubs.
Aboubakar’s previous Turkish experience with Besiktas and Hatayspor is understood to have helped establish his reputation in the country. His next potential chapter would come with Bodrum FK, following his spell at Neftchi PFK in Azerbaijan.
For now, the main focus is on Aboubakar’s scheduled visit to Bodrum and whether the remaining terms can be settled. If the formalities are completed, his return would add a familiar and high-profile name to the Turkish league while setting up the prospect of a meeting with Salah.
