Willy Kambwala cleared to return following long injury layoff

Villarreal CF have confirmed that defender Willy Kambwala has been medically cleared to return after recovering from a serious hamstring injury, bringing an end to a lengthy rehabilitation period for the young centre-back.

The club announced that the French-Congolese defender has left hospital after completing his recovery and receiving full medical clearance.

The news marks a significant milestone for the 20-year-old, who had been sidelined for months following surgery on his left hamstring.

Kambwala sustained the injury on 31 July during a pre-season friendly against Genoa CFC in the Spanish city of Oviedo.

The severity of the damage required surgical intervention, and the procedure was carried out on 7 August by Dr. Lasse Lempainen at the NEO Clinic in Turku, Finland.

Following the operation, the defender entered a carefully monitored rehabilitation programme.

Villarreal’s medical staff supervised the recovery process, ensuring that the player followed a strict treatment and training schedule designed to restore full strength to his hamstring and allow him to return safely to competitive football.

The club confirmed that the procedure and rehabilitation were intended to guarantee proper healing and enable Kambwala to return to peak physical condition.

His recovery has now been completed, allowing him to resume training and prepare for a return to match action.

The news is expected to be welcomed by Villarreal, who regain an important defensive option for the remainder of the season.

Kambwala’s physical presence and defensive awareness are viewed as key attributes that could strengthen the team’s back line as they continue their campaign in La Liga.

His return is also likely to attract attention from supporters of the DR Congo national football team, known as the Leopards, who have been closely monitoring the progress of the defender during his recovery.

Now declared fit to play, Kambwala will aim to regain his competitive rhythm and re-establish himself on the pitch after several months away from the game.
