Achraf Hakimi has entered an intensive phase of rehabilitation as he pushes to regain fitness in time for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Moroccan defender’s preparations were disrupted earlier this month when he suffered a serious ankle injury during Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich following a strong challenge from Luis Díaz.

Medical assessments later confirmed a severe sprain, ruling the 27-year-old out for at least six weeks.

Instead of opting for surgery, Hakimi has chosen a conservative approach, confident that a focused recovery plan will keep his chances alive for the tournament Morocco will host from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

He has begun rehabilitation immediately, signalling his determination to return as quickly as possible.

On Instagram, Hakimi posted images documenting his routine, which includes gym sessions, cycling, muscle work and physiotherapy exercises, all while wearing an ankle brace.

Hakimi is no stranger to racing against time ahead of a major competition. In 2019, he recovered from a metatarsal fracture during his spell with Borussia Dortmund and made it back in time to represent Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

That previous comeback has given supporters renewed confidence that he may overcome this latest setback as well, keeping hope alive for his participation at AFCON 2025
