Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen fires Galatasaray to 26th Turkish title
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray secured their 26th Turkish league title with a dramatic 4-2 victory over Antalyaspor on Saturday.
Galatasaray entered the match knowing victory would guarantee the championship after last weekend’s unexpected 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor delayed their celebrations.
Despite playing at home and being favourites to clinch the title, the league leaders found themselves under pressure before eventually completing a remarkable comeback.
Antalyaspor stunned the home crowd in first-half stoppage time when Soner Dikmen headed his side into the lead, leaving Galatasaray facing the possibility of another damaging result in the title race.
The hosts responded quickly after the break through Mario Lemina, whose equaliser restored belief inside the stadium. However, Antalyaspor regained the advantage soon afterwards as Dikmen produced a superb free-kick that flew into the top corner.
Galatasaray once again fought back and levelled the score at 2-2 when Osimhen converted a controversial penalty.
The Nigerian forward continued to lead the attacking pressure as the home side pushed desperately for the goals needed to secure the championship.
Substitute Noa Lang played a decisive role late in the game. With only two minutes remaining, the former PSV and Ajax player delivered a dangerous cross into the penalty area, where Osimhen cleverly redirected the ball into the net with a backheel finish despite close marking from an Antalyaspor defender.
The late goal completed Galatasaray’s turnaround and effectively secured the title before defender Kaan Ayhan added a fourth goal in the closing moments to seal a memorable victory.
The result confirmed Galatasaray as Turkish champions once again, ensuring they could no longer be overtaken by rivals Fenerbahçe at the top of the table.
Osimhen’s brace proved decisive on a night when Galatasaray had to overcome significant pressure before finally celebrating another league triumph in front of their supporters.
