Victor Osimhen closing in on Nigeria’s all-time topscorer record
Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen continues to write his name in the history books following his heroics on final day of the 2026 World Cup qualifier.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray in the summer scored a sensational hat-trick to inspire the Super Eagles to a resounding 4-0 win over Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
He netted twice in the first half before completing his treble early in the second half of the match, sealing a memorable performance for the home fans.
The former Napoli star was unplayable throughout the game on Tuesday night, with his hat-trick goal taking his international tally close to the all-time topscorers list.
Osimhen is now just eight goals shy of surpassing the legendary Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 goals, a milestone that has remained unbroken for nearly three decades.
The Super Eagles will compete in the continental playoff set for November 2025 before the inter-continental playoff to determine their fate for the global showpiece next year.
