Victor Osimhen clarifies substitution in Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has spoken out regarding his unexpected substitution during Galatasaray’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa on Saturday. The Super Lig champions squandered a three-goal lead at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi RAMS Park after Osimhen was replaced at halftime.
The 25-year-old forward, who is on loan from Serie A side Napoli, played a key role in the first half, scoring twice as Galatasaray raced to a commanding 3-0 advantage.
However, his early exit raised eyebrows, with many speculating about the reasoning behind the decision, particularly as Galatasaray collapsed in the second half, conceding three goals and settling for a disappointing draw.
Osimhen, addressing the situation on Galatasaray’s official website, revealed that his substitution was due to a minor injury concern.
While his performance had been impressive, he felt it necessary to communicate his discomfort to the coaching staff to avoid further aggravating the issue.
“I do not have a serious injury.
I felt a little discomfort. I thought I should tell my coach,” Osimhen explained. “If I reduced the team, it would be bad.
I did not want my other teammates’ performance to decrease.
I told Mauro and the coach. That is why I left the game.”
The forward’s decision to come off was made out of concern for both his own fitness and the team’s overall performance.
By stepping aside, Osimhen aimed to prevent his condition from worsening and potentially affecting his teammates on the pitch.
Despite his efforts, Galatasaray struggled to maintain their dominance in the second half, with Kasimpasa mounting a stunning comeback to level the match at 3-3.
Osimhen’s clarification will likely come as a relief to Nigeria’s interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, as the striker is expected to play a crucial role in the national team’s upcoming fixtures.
With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on the horizon, including a crucial tie against Libya next month, Osimhen’s availability will be key for the Super Eagles.
Although Osimhen reassured fans that his injury is not serious, Galatasaray will be eager to monitor his recovery closely, given the important role he plays in their attacking lineup.
His early exit and the subsequent loss of momentum underscore the striker’s influence on the team, and supporters will hope he can return to full fitness in time for their next fixtures.
The match against Kasimpasa marks a missed opportunity for Galatasaray, who are aiming to defend their Super Lig title this season.
With Osimhen’s status clarified, attention will now turn to how the Turkish champions respond in their upcoming games, where they will hope to avoid another slip-up.
