Victor Boniface will not play again this season for Werder Bremen after the club confirmed the striker’s recovery timeline rules out a return before the end of the campaign.
The Nigerian forward, who joined the Green and Whites on loan last summer to strengthen their attack, has been out of action for several months.
With the Bundesliga season approaching its conclusion, the club has now clarified his medical status, ending uncertainty surrounding a potential comeback.
The final decision was communicated by sporting director Peter Niemeyer, who confirmed that Boniface will remain sidelined.
According to reports from Complete Sports, citing German outlet DeichStube, Niemeyer said it was “impossible” for the striker to return to competitive action before the season ends.
Boniface suffered a knee injury during a training session last December, a setback that required surgery at the beginning of the year.
Since then, he has been continuing his rehabilitation programme away from Bremen as he works toward full recovery.
“He is finishing his rehabilitation in Leverkusen, and we are pleased with every bit of progress. But it is still impossible to predict when he will be fully fit again,” Niemeyer stated.
He then added a definitive conclusion: “Due to the rehabilitation process, we do not expect Victor to play for Werder again this season.”
The update effectively brings Boniface’s on-field involvement with Bremen this term to an early close.
His spell at the Weserstadion will therefore be defined by the appearances he has already made during the campaign.
In 11 league outings for Bremen, the striker registered two assists but did not score.
Those numbers now stand as his final contribution for the club this season as he continues focusing on recovery.
