Victor Boniface nears sensational Werder Bremen return

Victor Boniface could surprisingly make his way back onto the pitch for Werder Bremen this season, despite earlier assumptions that his campaign was already over.

According to BILD, the 25-year-old striker is close to returning to the training ground after undergoing knee surgery in January due to cartilage damage.

Initially, the plan was for Boniface not to feature again in this Bundesliga season, but that timetable now appears more optimistic. The on-loan forward from Bayer Leverkusen is expected to start individual training in Bremen soon, where he will carefully rebuild fitness and confidence step by step.

Medical checks are scheduled to accompany this process. If the examinations and subsequent increase in workload go as hoped, Boniface could be reintegrated into full team training, with possible short cameos in the league from the end of April already being discussed.

For Werder, his return would come at an ideal moment, as attacking options are currently stretched and Keke Topp is out long term. Even though Boniface has yet to score for Bremen, he may still play an important role in the final weeks of the season and add a much-needed impulse up front.
