VfB Stuttgart target rising Ghanaian striker Mohammed Sofo

VfB Stuttgart are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign Ghanaian forward Mohammed Sofo from Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls.

At just 20 years old, Sofo has emerged as one of the standout young talents in MLS, impressing with his composure, work rate, and technical ability since joining the Red Bulls in September 2024.

The Accra-born attacker has adapted quickly to the demands of top-flight American football, carving out a reputation as a creative, tireless forward capable of unsettling defences with his direct running and sharp movement.

This season, Sofo has featured in 24 matches, scoring four goals and contributing significantly to the team’s attacking play.

His combination of pace and intelligence in the final third has not gone unnoticed in Europe, where Stuttgart’s scouting department is believed to have been following his development closely.

Sources indicate that Stuttgart sporting director Christian Gentner has taken a personal interest in securing the young striker’s signature.

Reports suggest the Bundesliga club has already submitted a formal offer of €2 million to New York Red Bulls, a proposal that has reportedly been accepted by the MLS side.

“The final details to be resolved concern the player’s salary,” from sources, hinting that the deal is nearing completion. Should negotiations be finalised in the coming weeks, Sofo is expected to remain in the United States until the end of the MLS season before making the move to Germany in January.

For Sofo, the potential transfer marks a significant step in his rapid rise.

Since turning professional, the young forward has demonstrated maturity beyond his years, quickly earning the trust of his coaches and teammates.

His versatility — equally effective as a central striker or wide attacker — has made him a valuable asset to the Red Bulls’ dynamic style of play.

According to the specialist website Transfermarkt, Sofo’s current market valuation stands at around €800,000, making Stuttgart’s offer a clear statement of intent regarding their faith in his potential.

The Bundesliga club, who are preparing for their Europa League Group Stage clash against Turkish side Fenerbahçe, appear eager to strengthen their attacking depth ahead of the January transfer window.

If the move materialises, Mohammed Sofo will become the latest Ghanaian talent to make the leap from MLS to one of Europe’s top leagues — a transition that could define the next chapter of his promising career.
