Bradley Grobler joins Stellenbosch FC

Veteran South African striker Bradley Grobler has officially joined Stellenbosch FC on a season-long deal, ending weeks of speculation surrounding his future following his departure from Sekhukhune United.

The experienced forward arrives in the Cape Winelands as one of the most notable free-agent signings of the transfer window, providing Stellenbosch with proven firepower ahead of what promises to be another demanding campaign on both domestic and continental fronts.

Grobler became available after parting ways with Sekhukhune United at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to a productive two-year spell with Babina Noko.

His departure came as a surprise to many observers given his impressive contributions during his time at the club. Despite entering the latter stages of his career, the former SuperSport United striker remained a consistent source of goals and was one of Sekhukhune’s most reliable performers.

In both seasons he spent at the club, Grobler finished as Sekhukhune United’s leading goalscorer, netting 11 goals in each campaign. His consistency in front of goal helped the team remain competitive and underlined his enduring quality as one of South Africa’s most accomplished strikers.

For that reason, many expected Sekhukhune to retain his services, making his exit one of the more surprising developments of the off-season.

Following his departure, several clubs quickly expressed interest in securing the services of the experienced attacker.

AmaZulu FC were among the teams linked with the striker as they looked to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season. However, Stellenbosch FC emerged as the strongest contenders and ultimately succeeded in convincing Grobler to make the move to the Western Cape.

A major factor behind the transfer appears to have been the presence of head coach Gavin Hunt.

The pair share a long and successful history dating back to their time together at the now-defunct SuperSport United, where Grobler enjoyed some of the finest years of his career under Hunt’s guidance.

Their previous working relationship is believed to have played a significant role in the striker’s decision to join Stellenbosch despite interest from elsewhere.

Hunt has long been an admirer of Grobler’s professionalism, movement and goalscoring instincts, and the veteran coach reportedly viewed the striker as an ideal addition to his squad as he seeks to add experience and leadership to a relatively youthful group.

For Stellenbosch, the signing represents more than just the acquisition of an experienced forward.

The club has steadily established itself among South Africa’s top sides in recent seasons, and adding a player of Grobler’s pedigree is seen as a statement of intent. His arrival provides greater depth in attack and offers a proven goalscorer capable of delivering in high-pressure matches.

Even at this stage of his career, Grobler remains one of the most respected finishers in South African football. His intelligent movement inside the penalty area, aerial ability and knack for being in the right place at the right time continue to make him a dangerous opponent for defenders.

Supporters will be hoping those qualities can help Stellenbosch maintain their upward trajectory and compete strongly across all competitions this season.

However, the striker faces an immediate challenge before making his competitive debut.

Having joined the club after missing a significant portion of pre-season preparations, Grobler is currently racing against time to regain full match fitness. The lack of a complete pre-season programme means the technical team will carefully manage his workload as he works towards peak condition.

His availability for Stellenbosch’s upcoming fixtures remains uncertain, although the club will be eager to integrate him into the squad as quickly as possible.

Stellenbosch are scheduled to face Polokwane City away from home on Tuesday, and all eyes will be on whether Grobler can recover sufficiently to feature in some capacity.

Regardless of when his debut arrives, expectations will be high.

With a proven record of goals at every club he has represented and a successful history under Gavin Hunt, Grobler’s arrival is expected to strengthen Stellenbosch’s attacking department considerably.

As the new season gathers momentum, the experienced striker will be aiming to repay the faith shown in him by Hunt and help Stellenbosch FC achieve their ambitions while adding another successful chapter to an already distinguished career.
