Veteran Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula has set sights on winning the South African Premier League title before calling it a quit.
Makhaula, who turns 37 this year could hang up his boots at the end of the 2025/2026 football campaign. He hopes the current season gives him the chance to be a league winner as he nears the end of the career.
“Only God knows [When I will retire]. I’m always praying because my wish is [to win] the league. We will see maybe this season it can happen but hopefully,” said the former AmaZulu midfielder.
Pirates have Thalente Mbatha, Sipho Mbule, Sihle Nduli and Cemran Dansin in Makhaula’s position which means given his age he must always triple his effort when in the starting line-up.
“I think the young guys always want to challenge me each and every time, even during training, and then you know when I try to take things easy, they come hard on me always,” said Makhaula.
“So, I just have to keep myself fit and eat well so that you can see me all the time, and that I’m still running. So, they motivate me too much. So I’m learning a lot from them, and they’re also learning a lot from me,” Makhaula said about the motivation from the young players.”
