RS Berkane have stepped up preparations for their crucial CAF Champions League encounter against Pyramids FC, with new signing Anas Zniti taking part in training ahead of Sunday’s Group A showdown in Cairo.
The Moroccan side is set to visit the Egyptian outfit in the fourth round of the group stage, and recent training sessions witnessed the first involvement of goalkeeper Zniti following his arrival at the club.
His inclusion comes as Berkane look to reinforce their squad for the decisive phase of the competition.
Renaissance Berkane moved quickly to secure the services of the experienced shot stopper, signing Zniti until the end of the current season in a bid to strengthen their goalkeeping department.
The move was prompted by an injury to first-choice international goalkeeper Munir El Mohammadi, which forced the club to seek immediate cover ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
Zniti’s arrival adds experience to the Orange side as they aim to maintain their strong position in the group.
Berkane previously held Pyramids to a goalless draw in the third round when the two sides met at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane, a result that kept the group finely balanced.
Renaissance Berkane currently sit top of Group A with seven points, holding the advantage over Pyramids on goal difference, while Nigeria’s Rivers United trail behind in third place with one point.
With qualification still wide open, Sunday’s meeting in Egypt is expected to play a key role in shaping the outcome of the group.
