Veszprem set up Al Ahly clash after 45-19 win in Handball Club World Cup qualifier

Hungarian side Veszprem secured their place in Group B of the Handball Club World Cup after beating Australia’s University of Sydney 45-19 in the preliminary round for qualification to the group stage.

Veszprem will join Al Ahly, German club Fuchse Berlin and Kuwait’s Burgan in Group B.

The Hungarian club’s squad includes four Egyptian players: Yahia El-Deraa, Ahmed Hesham, Ali Zein and Ahmed Adel Mesilhy.

Egypt will host the tournament from 24 September to 1 October 2026, with 10 clubs taking part. Matches will be played at the New Administrative Capital Hall.

Moroccan Forum v Zamalek, if they qualify – 1:15pm

Al Ahly v winner of play-off 2 – 8:45pm

27 September

Barcelona v Zamalek, if they qualify – 3:30pm

Al Ahly v Burgan – 8pm

29 September

Zamalek, if they qualify, v Pinheiros – 1:15pm

Fuchse Berlin v Al Ahly – 8pm

Ranking day – 1 October

Seventh-place play-off – 12:30pm

Fifth-place play-off – 3pm

Third-place play-off – 5:30pm

Final – 8pm
