Since Tuesday, the Italian financial police, Guardia di Finanza, initiated an extensive search operation, conducting raids on the premises of 41 football clubs, including 18 from Serie A, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport. Legal sources from AFP indicate that Juventus, the reigning Italian champions, along with AC Milan, Napoli, Fiorentina, and Lazio Rome, are among the teams under scrutiny in an investigation focusing on suspicions of tax evasion, money laundering, and false invoices related to player transfers.
The investigation traces its origins to a year ago when the Naples public prosecutor’s office launched inquiries to expose the existence of these practices. This probe implicates teams across various divisions of Italian football. Additionally, players’ agents, including Alejandro Mazzoni, who represents Paris Saint-Germain’s Ezequiel Lavezzi, are also implicated in the ongoing affair.
