World Cup 2026: Van Dijk warns Netherlands over “dangerous” Morocco quartet ahead of Round of 32 clash
Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk has issued a warning to his teammates ahead of their Round of 32 clash against Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, highlighting the quality and threat posed by several key players in the Atlas Lions squad.
Van Dijk Highlights Morocco’s Key Threats
The Dutch skipper praised Morocco’s squad depth and individual talent, pointing out the danger of their attacking and midfield options as the two teams prepare for a high-stakes knockout encounter in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Van Dijk singled out right-back Achraf Hakimi as one of the best players in the world in his position, underlining the threat Morocco pose from wide areas.
Praise for Saibari, Brahim Diaz and Emerging Talent
According to Reuters, Van Dijk also referenced Ismail Saibari, who impressed during his season with PSV Eindhoven, as well as Brahim Diaz, describing both as key attacking threats for Morocco.
He further mentioned young midfielder Ayoub Bouadi, noting his growing influence and recent performances for the national team.
“Everything Is in Our Hands” — Van Dijk
Van Dijk said the Netherlands have studied Morocco carefully and feel well prepared after their training sessions leading into the match.
He stated: “They have a lot of good players. There is also the young defensive midfielder who has recently started to stand out and perform well,” referring to Ayoub Bouadi.
He added: “We analysed their performance, we had two very good training sessions, everything that needed to be said or done has been done, and now it is in our hands.”
No Need for a Statement Win
The Dutch captain also stressed that he does not believe his team needs a dominant victory to send a message to other contenders, emphasising that the focus is simply on progressing in the tournament.
