Halilhodžić Takes a Breather After Trabzonspor Exit Amid Surging Interest
Just days after parting ways with Turkish side Trabzonspor, Vahid Halilhodžić finds himself back in demand. The Bosnian coach, who led Algeria to an impressive World Cup campaign before leaving for club management, has now been sacked following a string of underwhelming performances. Despite the setback, interest in his services remains strong—particularly from clubs in France.
But Halilhodžić is not rushing into anything. In an interview with France Football, the seasoned tactician expressed his need for a period of rest before committing to a new challenge.
“I need to rest a bit,” he said. “In just a few days, I’ve already received around ten offers, even from France. I know very well how this world works. I’m not the type to promote myself by calling journalists or appearing on Bein Sport or Canal+ to lecture people. I don’t do that.”
He went on to explain that he’s already received two firm offers as recently as Monday morning and has even been approached by the Bosnian Football Federation to discuss a potential return to the national team setup.
“These are long-term projects that require a lot of energy and invisible work—like what I did at Lille. These aren’t decisions to be made lightly or alone,” Halilhodžić stated.
The coach, known for his meticulous and demanding approach, seems cautious about jumping back into what he calls “team projects in difficult situations.” Having managed national teams like Ivory Coast, Algeria, and club sides across France, Turkey, and Japan, Halilhodžić appears to be weighing his next move carefully—seeking a challenge that matches both his ambition and values.
For now, Halilhodžić is choosing recovery over rapid reintegration, but his next move will undoubtedly be closely watched across Europe and beyond.
