Youssef Belaili Cleared to Play for USM Alger Amid Turbulent Start to Season
Algerian attacking midfielder Youssef Belaili has officially been cleared to play for USM Alger, marking a fresh chapter in what has been a turbulent start to his season.
Previously linked with a move to French side SM Caen and reportedly facing serious off-field threats — including death threats — Belaili’s transfer situation had been clouded with uncertainty. Now, following a dispute raised by his former club Espérance de Tunis, the issue has been resolved in favour of the Algerian international.
Espérance had contested the legality of his move to USM Alger, questioning whether proper procedures had been followed in authorizing the switch. However, the relevant football authorities have since declared Belaili eligible to feature for the Algiers-based club in domestic competitions.
The 22-year-old’s return to Algerian football comes at a pivotal time, with USM Alger aiming to strengthen their squad and push for top honours this season. Belaili, known for his creativity and flair, is expected to play a key role in the team’s campaign.
For the player himself, the move provides an opportunity to regain form and focus after a period of instability, both on and off the pitch.
