USM Alger have booked their place in the CAF Super Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Zamalek in a tightly contested two-legged final.

The Algerian club held a slender advantage from the first leg, securing a hard-fought 1-0 win last week to set up a tense return fixture in Cairo.

At the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday, Zamalek made a dream start when Oday Dabbagh struck in the 5th minute to level the tie on aggregate.

Despite sustained pressure from the Egyptian side, neither team could find a decisive second goal in regulation time, leaving the aggregate score locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

With the deadlock unbroken, the final was decided from the penalty spot. In a nerve-shredding shootout, USM Alger held their composure to prevail 8-7, sealing the title in dramatic fashion.

The victory crowns USM Alger as champions and guarantees them a lucrative $4 million prize package.

Attention now turns to the CAF Super Cup, where the Algerian side will face either South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns or Moroccan outfit AS FAR.

The two teams are currently battling for the second ticket, with Sundowns set to host the first leg in South Africa before travelling to Morocco for the return fixture next weekend.
