USM Alger’s struggles deepened on Wednesday as they slipped to a third straight league defeat, falling 2-1 at home to ASO Chlef in a tense encounter.
The result continues a worrying run for the capital club, who are now winless in their last three matches.
ASO Chlef made a quick statement with a goal just two minutes in, thanks to a sharp finish from Liberian forward Edward Ledelom. The visitors doubled their lead midway through the second half when Ayoub Sedahin found the net in the 67th minute, piling pressure on the home side.
USM Alger managed to pull one back through Bonfilscaleb Pimenyimana, who converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time, but the goal came too late to inspire a comeback.
The loss leaves USM Alger in sixth place with 33 points, just one ahead of ASO Chlef, who now sit seventh with 32 points.
Next, USM Alger face Olympique Akbou on May 8, while ASO Chlef travel to meet ES Mostaganem on the same day, hoping to build on this vital away win.
