Algerian giants USM Alger are reportedly eyeing South African coach Benni McCarthy as their next manager.

McCarthy, who has been at the helm of the Kenyan national team for nearly a year, is said to be among the leading candidates following Abdelhak Benchikha’s exit.

Benchikha departed USMA by mutual consent after 24 matches, finishing with 12 wins, nine draws, and three losses.

USM Alger are understood to have shortlisted several coaches for the vacancy, with McCarthy emerging as a preferred option.

The former Bafana Bafana striker’s last club role was as a strikers’ coach at Manchester United from 2022 to 2024 under Erik ten Hag.

His most recent head coaching stint was with AmaZulu between 2020 and 2022.

If confirmed, McCarthy would become the second South African to manage in Algeria, joining Rulani Mokwena, who currently leads MC Alger.
