USM Alger: Billel Dziri discusses the reasons for his departure
USM Alger have officially parted ways with their coach Billel Dziri. On Wednesday, February 26th, both the club and Dziri agreed to a mutual termination of his contract, ending his tenure at the Algiers-based side.
The decision comes after a difficult period for the Red and Blacks, who have struggled to find form in recent weeks. USMA has failed to secure a victory in their last eight matches across all competitions, leaving the team in 9th place in the Ligue 1 standings with 25 points from 19 games. The club’s management reportedly tried to convince Dziri to stay, but the coach insisted that stepping aside could benefit the team.
Speaking about his departure, Dziri explained that his decision was made in the interest of the club. “I have decided to leave the club, and we have mutually terminated the contract with the management. This is despite the insistence of the officials that I stay,” he said. He added, “I hope this will allow the team to find renewed energy for the second half of the season.”
Dziri, a former USM Alger player and national team international, had taken charge at the start of the season. Despite his deep connection with the club, results did not go in his favor, and the decision to part ways reflects both the team’s struggles and Dziri’s willingness to prioritize the club’s long-term interests.
USM Alger now faces the challenge of stabilizing the squad and regaining momentum as they look to climb the Ligue 1 table in the second half of the season. The club will need to act quickly to appoint a new head coach capable of reviving the team’s performance and restoring confidence among players and supporters.
