USM Alger: Youcef Belaïli Vows Loyalty and Redemption After Disappointing Season
After a tumultuous season in the Algerian Ligue 1, USM Alger is looking to turn the page — and Youcef Belaïli is determined to lead the charge.
The reigning champions from the previous campaign failed to defend their title, ultimately finishing far from the top and flirting dangerously with relegation. With ES Sétif clinching the championship, the Red and Blacks found themselves in unfamiliar territory — battling for survival rather than dominance.
Despite a season filled with setbacks, Belaïli has pledged to remain with the club and finish his contract on a high.
“I have no intention of leaving. I still have another season to complete with USM Alger, which I hope to leave at the end of next season while winning titles with the club,” he told APS.
Addressing critics of his performances, the midfielder remained firm:
“I don’t pay attention to what has been said about me. I believe I gave the best of myself throughout the season. I understand the criticism, especially since we were expected to compete for the top but ended up in a survival battle.”
Now, with group-stage qualification in the CAF Champions League secured, Belaïli and his teammates are shifting focus. The continental competition offers an opportunity to restore pride and rebuild momentum.
“We are determined to have a good run in the Champions League, especially if the club’s management manages to hire a very good coach,” Belaïli added.
USM Alger fans will be hoping this commitment marks the beginning of a redemption arc for one of Algeria’s most storied clubs.
