USM Alger claimed the African Super Cup for the second time after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1.
The Algerian side, who previously won the trophy in 2023/2024, took the lead when Zakaria Draoui converted Ahmed Khaldi’s cross inside the penalty area.
Mamelodi Sundowns responded in the 25th minute, with Iqraam Rayners equalising from the penalty spot.
USM Alger restored their advantage nine minutes before half-time. Saadi Redouani followed up after a header had come back off the crossbar to put the Algerian club 2-1 ahead.
Ahmed Khaldi then extended USM Alger’s lead in the 55th minute with an excellent strike.
The winners had further opportunities to add a fourth goal during the remainder of the match but were unable to convert them.
The result continues the recent dominance of CAF Confederation Cup winners over Champions League holders in the African Super Cup. Four Confederation Cup champions have won the trophy in the past five editions.
Pyramids have been the only club to win both the CAF Champions League and the African Super Cup during that period.
USM Alger secured last season’s CAF Confederation Cup after beating الزمالك on penalties in the final. Mamelodi Sundowns, meanwhile, won the CAF Champions League final against AS FAR.
Sundowns had earlier been eliminated from this season’s CAF Champions League in the round of 32 after losing to Wiliete.
