The Congolese government has taken steps to address controversies surrounding the bonuses of the national football team, the Leopards, currently participating in the CAN in South Africa. Barthelemy Okito, the general secretary for sports, revealed that the national treasury disbursed one million US dollars before the players left for South Africa. This amount constitutes half of the budget allocated to the team.
Despite the adjustments, each player received a total of US$40,000, with US$25,000 as a participation bonus and an additional US$15,000 as a match bonus (US$5,000 per match). These terms were agreed upon with the players’ delegates, led by captain Trésor Mputu.
