Charlotte FC forward Patrick Agyemang has set his sights on representing the United States at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following his first invitation to the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) January training camp.
The 24-year-old, who is of Ghanaian heritage, was selected as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, is among seven forwards who participated in the event in Florida, which has historically been a pivotal platform for players to secure spots in the World Cup squad.
The January camp, often referred to as “Camp Cupcake,” has been a launching pad for numerous players over the past two decades.
Since 1999, 30 players who made either their debut or second appearance for Team USA during this January camp have gone on to be selected for the FIFA World Cup.
“Growing up, you watch the World Cup every four years and dream of being there. That’s probably one of the biggest stages you could play on. Of course, I want to play on the biggest stage,” he told Flashscore.
“My main focus is doing everything I can to be the best version of myself on and off the field. I would love to be in the next World Cup. Next year my dream and goal would be to be a part of the group in the World Cup.”
The young forward’s journey from playing Division III soccer to becoming a key player for Charlotte FC is a testament to his rapid development.
